AmeriCorps

What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is a national volunteer program that brings people together to tackle their communities' most pressing needs. YouthBuild Louisville partnered with AmeriCorps in 2010 to manage their own AmeriCorps program. Since then, YBL has successfully worked with hundreds of members to serve and drastically improve their communities. There is a multitude of communities and projects members have completed which include: the construction of Affordable Housing Units, building community park structures, planting over 150 community trees, beautification projects, Blood Drives, reading to school-aged children, feeding the homeless, etc.

Each participant that is enrolled in the YouthBuild program is also enrolled in AmeriCorps, serving a 450-hour volunteer position to earn valuable experiences and an education award of $1,718.25.  This education award has been the start of many YouthBuild students' college careers, increasing their chances in the competitive workforce.  It is also a great resource for those who are unsure if college is right for them and want to try out one class to see if college is a good fit.  All of the 450 hours that YouthBuild students obtain as AmeriCorps members, couple with their YouthBuild hours.  This means that the hour's youth spend at YouthBuild towards their education and vocation goals, will count towards the 450 hours.  The AmeriCorps program is an additional resource for students during their time in the YouthBuild program, and after they graduate.

In addition, we have Full-Time AmeriCorps positions for those looking to improve their construction skills, environmental education skills, or teaching skills, and are passionate about improving youths' futures.  The Full-Time positions are offered $6,495.00 education awards once hours are complete.
